The Funniest Comedian in the Heartland
This summer, The Grove Comedy Club is holding a five day comedy competition to find America’s funniest comedian! After the success of last year’s competition, The Grove is offering more prize money for contestants. Early bird submissions are open now. Please read below for more infortmation.
Where and When is the competition?
The competition is at The Grove Comedy Club in Lowell, Arkansas. August 18-22, 2020.
What are the prizes?
1st place $2000.00
2nd place $1000.00
3rd place $500.00
4th place $400.00
5th place $300.00
6th place $200.00
How many comedians are in the competition?
There will be 30 comedians participating in the competition.
Will there be lodging offered for comedians?
Comedians will receive a generous discount rate at a nice, clean, safe hotel.
What about food and beverages?
The Grove will provide dinner for comedians every day of the competition.
Do I have to be from “The Heartland” to compete?
No. You can be from any state to participate in the competition. Please be advised, all contestants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Lowell, AR.
How will the competition be judged?
It will be a combination of audience vote and judge scoring.
Who are the judges?
Every night there will be a new set of judges. A diverse mixture of men and women, from millenials to boomers.
Is there a submission fee?
Yes. Early bird fee is $5 from March 15th- April 30th. The normal fee is $10 from May 1st- June 5th. Submissions close June 5th. Comedians will be announced on June 15th.
How do I submit?
There are two parts to submitting. First, email your 5-7 minute stand up video and a short bio to Hannahhogan221@gmail.com with the subject line “Heartland Submission”. Then, you must go to https://thegrovecomedy.com to pay your submission fee. Only when your submission fee is paid will your submission be viewed. You will be notified via email when your full submission has been received.
What are you looking for in a submission video?
Presentation is everything. If you submit a video that has severely bad audio or is from a cell phone, it will not present you in a professional light. Please submit a stand-up video where your best jokes get consistent, strong laughter from the audience. You don’t have to be clean, but if your set is laced with vile obscenities, you will not be a top candidate.
If I participated in the competition last year, can I come back this year?
Yes. If you were in the competition last year you are welcome to resubmit a video and bio to Hannah Hogan at hannahhogan221@gmai.com. You don't have to pay a submission fee just remind Hannah you competed in 2019.
